Established in Melbourne in 1982, this year Austral Lock is proudly celebrating 40 years of Australian manufacturing and patented innovation excellence. We’re one of few in the window and door industry still designing and manufacturing in Australia, and we wanted to celebrate it!
Zinc, heat and sparks
Austral began 40 years ago as a small family business, over the decades we grew into an innovative and quality-oriented business, supplying hardware to all corners of Australia.
In 2009 Austral Lock was incorporated into the Gainsborough Hardware brand. Today Austral Lock is a large organisation under a global leader in security – Allegion, making it part of a large family of brands, including API, Brio, FSH, Gainsborough Hardware, Legge and Schlage.
We are standing on the shoulders of history, and we have great leadership that will allow us to move forward. The fun times and the tough times we share are what makes a company great and we did it together, for that I can’t thank our team enough.

The team at Brooklyn came together to celebrate this impressive milestone along with original founder Russell Watts. From new and old members, the enthusiasm for this brand and what it means to be part of Australian manufacturing is enormous. It is a unique opportunity to work with products designed, tested and made in Australia and we are proud as can be to deliver that to our customers.
